In an effort to channel some holiday spirit last night, Rick and I baked sugar cookie “cut outs” using a recipe that’s been in my family for years.
Grandma Glo’s Christmas Cut Outs
1 lb. (4 sticks) butter creamed with 3C powdered sugar
1/2 tsp salt
4 tsp canned evaporated milk
4 eggs
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
6 - 6 1/2 C flour sifted (save 1 C for rolling out cookies)
After creaming sugar and butter, mix in remaining liquid ingredients. Sift together all dry ingredients (separately) and then gradually add them to liquid mixture. Should end up with dough that can be rolled out. (Use as little flour as possible for lighter cookies)
Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes.
Ice with favorite store bought or homemade icing and decorate as you wish… I used sprinkles, candies, coconut, pecans and decorative icing.
ENJOY!
